This month’s SMB client spotlight is on Design Pro Remodeling. Earlier this year, we spent some time with one of the franchise founders of this growing home remodeling franchise. SMB: What makes your service offering unique in today’s market?

TC: Our approach blends premium remodeling with a design-first mindset—bringing together skilled tradespeople, in-house design consultants, and top-tier project management. Clients don’t just get a contractor; they get a partner who brings their vision to life with precision, style, and care. Our clients’ satisfaction is our top priority.

SMB: How do you maintain service quality standards across locations?

TC: We provide a detailed operational playbook, continuous training, and support to all franchisees, ensuring a consistent customer experience. Regular check-ins, shared technology tools, and brand-wide performance metrics help keep every location aligned with our high standards.

SMB: What inspired you to franchise your business?

TC: After building a successful remodeling business with strong systems and a loyal client base in the DMV (Delaware, Maryland and Virginia) area, we realized there was a huge opportunity to help others replicate our model in new markets. Franchising was the natural next step to expand our impact while empowering entrepreneurs to thrive.

SMB: How many locations did you have before SMB? How many have you grown to since partnering with SMB?

TC: Before partnering with SMB, we had our 5 flagship locations operating. Since then, we’ve launched multiple franchise units and are continuing to expand steadily with strong interest in finding the right people for the role.

SMB: What are your long-term goals for your franchise? How many territories do you hope to grow to have in the United States?

TC: Our goal is to expand Design Pro Remodeling franchise to 20+ locations nationwide over the next few years. We’re focused on strategic growth—partnering with the right franchisees in markets where demand is high and our brand can truly shine.

SMB: What qualities do you look for in successful franchisee candidates?

TC: We look for entrepreneurial minded, driven, and customer-focused individuals who are passionate about design and home improvement. Ideal candidates don’t necessarily need construction experience, but they should be strong leaders, good communicators, and committed to building relationships in their community.

SMB: What makes your franchisee training program unique?

TC: Our training goes beyond basic operations. We provide hands-on, real-world experience in the field, paired with ongoing training on sales, design consultation, project management, and business development. Plus, ongoing mentorship and weekly check-ins ensure franchisees are never on their own.

SMB: How do you help franchisees build strong client relationships?

TC: We teach franchisees how to lead with empathy and professionalism—focusing on the customer journey from first consultation to final walkthrough. Our CRM tools, simple 5-step process, and communication standards are all geared toward creating a premium, personalized client experience. We aim for a 5-star experience on every single project.

SMB: What advice do you have for business owners looking to franchise?

TC: Make sure your business model is replicable and that you’re passionate about teaching others. Franchising isn’t just about growth—it’s about leadership and trust. Surround yourself with experts who can help you build a strong foundation.
